The annual American Academy of Religion/Society of Biblical Literature Conference was held was held in San Diego, California in November of this year and was well attended by the , School of Religion's faculty. There participation covered a variety of activities listed below.

  • Dr. Richard Ascough presented a paper entitled: “On the Intersection of Meals and Ritual in the Roman World”.
  • Matthew Dougherty attended but did not present this year.
  • Dr. Sharday Mosurinjohn presented her paper “The Positive Potential of Misrepresentation in Digital Game Design; Affect, Agency and Meaning-Making”.
  • Dr. M. Shobhana Xavier presented on a panel for the Transnational Religion Expression: Between Asia and North America working group, for which she is also a committee member. Dr. Xavier also was a participant in a mentoring and networking session run about the Islam units, where she started her experience of being on the job market with current graduate students in the field and was also a discussant for the roundtable discussion on “Teaching Islam and Muslim Studies” held by Women of Colour Scholarship, Teaching and Activism AAR units.
