Teaching Opportunities: Term Adjuncts
Fall 2025
The Department of Gender Studies invites applications from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching the following courses. These courses are fall term appointments for the period of September 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025 with classes in session from September 2, 2025, to December 2, 2025.
GNDS 120-001 & 002 Women, Gender, Difference
This course explores women, gender, and difference from feminist and anti-racist perspectives. It identifies the ways in which women’s activism, politics, and experiences intersect with other gendered identifications such as race, location, class, (dis)ability, and sexuality. Lessons and texts will introduce feminism, the body, colonialism, gender performance, and strategies of resistance.
This is a first-year course with an expected enrolment of 200 students per section.
Five (5) teaching assistants will be assigned to each section of the course, and they will each lead two tutorial sections.
GNDS 120-001 is delivered as a two hour in person lecture on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Teaching Assistants lead tutorial sections on Wednesdays from 8:30–9:30 a.m. and 3:30–4:30 p.m.
GNDS 120-002 is delivered as a two hour in person lecture on Fridays from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Teaching Assistants lead tutorial sections on Tuesdays from 3:30–4:30 p.m. and 4:30–5:30 p.m.
GNDS 125S (Online) Gender, Race and Popular Culture
This course explores culture from feminist and anti-racist perspectives, with attention to sexuality, gender, race and nation in a variety of media.
This is a first-year course with an expected enrolment of 200 students.
Six (6) teaching assistants will be assigned.
GNDS 125S is delivered as an asynchronous course online.
GNDS 215S (Online) Introduction to Sexual and Gender Diversity
This course is an introduction to studies in sexuality and gender diversity. It will survey the field and include topics such as classical inquiries into sexuality, contemporary theories on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer identities, sexual movements, human rights, sexual morality, pornography, global sex trade, and queer cultural production. This course is open to all students but required for students enrolled in the Certificate in Sexual and Gender Diversity. It is designed to introduce SXGD students to the field and prepare them for selecting future courses.
This is a second-year course with an expected enrolment of 150 students.
Five (5) teaching assistants will be assigned.
GNDS 215S is delivered as an asynchronous course online.
Winter 2026
The following courses are winter term appointments for the period of January 1, 2026, to April 30, 2026 with classes in session from January 5, 2026, to April 6, 2026.
GNDS 215 Introduction to Sexual and Gender Diversity
This course is an introduction to studies in sexuality and gender diversity. It will survey the field and include topics such as classical inquiries into sexuality, contemporary theories on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer identities, sexual movements, human rights, sexual morality, pornography, global sex trade, and queer cultural production. This course is open to all students but required for students enrolled in the Certificate in Sexual and Gender Diversity. It is designed to introduce SXGD students to the field and prepare them for selecting future courses.
This is a second-year course with an expected enrolment of 168 students.
Four (4) teaching assistants will be assigned, and they will each lead two tutorial sections.
Candidates should have a PhD or be near completion and teaching experience at the University level in Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, Sociology, or a related discipline.

- Cover letter indicating which courses, including sections, you are applying for and detailing how your academic accomplishments and relevant experience make you a strong candidate for the course;
- Curriculum vitae;
- Any teaching evaluations from courses previously taught;
- An unofficial transcript of graduate coursework;
- The names and contact information of two referees (reference letters not required);
- Proposed course outline or syllabus; and
- Any other relevant materials the candidate wishes to submit for consideration such as a teaching dossier.
