This course is structured around the analysis of a case study. Students will analyze the short list of a major literary award. It aims to provide knowledge of key concepts in book culture (literary field, cultural globalization; conglomeration; and bibliodiversity) and to enable to the understanding of book circulation and the power dynamics it underpins.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Consider the social, political, cultural, and economic value of a literary text in relation to its historical and national context.
  2. Analyze and discuss literary merit both orally and in written form.
  3. Understand the role of prize culture in the economy of literary art.
  4. Debate the relative value of diverse literary works with respect to both personal taste and defined assessment criteria.
  5. Develop a critical vocabulary about literature and the economics of books.
  6. Improve reading, writing, and speaking skills in French at an advanced level.
