Queens Universitys 175th anniversary celebrations are going international. Next stop Hong Kong.
Alumni, academic partners, students, and prospective students in the Asia-Pacific region are invited to a series of celebrations on May 20 including a gala evening at The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong featuring Queens Professor Emeritus and Nobel Laureate Dr. Arthur McDonald in honour of the universitys historic milestone.
Queens has strong ties with Hong Kong. The city is home to one of our most engaged international alumni branches and many academic and research partners. I am looking forward to reconnecting with fellow alumni and friends of Queens in the region and continuing to build Queens international partnerships, says Principal Daniel Woolf, Artsci80.
The day will feature several special events. In the afternoon, a convocation-style ceremony will recognize alumni amidst friends and family, and long-time Queens volunteer and retired Judge of the High Court Kin Kee Pang, Arts70, will be presented with an honorary degree. The event will also welcome incoming students the class of 2021 to Queens. Following the afternoon activities, the formal evening Gala reception and dinner will feature keynote speaker Dr. McDonald, Principal Woolf, and Chancellor Jim Leech, MBA73. Black tie is optional and Queens jackets are welcome.
The trip is also an opportunity for alumni in the Asia-Pacific region to connect with each other and with Queens senior leaders to help advance the universitys international aspirations.
For some alumni, it has been decades since they have been on campus in Kingston, so the 175th celebrations are a chance to rekindle our tricolour spirit by meeting with fellow Gaels and senior university leaders, to share our experiences, perspectives and our love for Queens, says Edmond Chan, Artsci97, executive committee member of the Alumni Associations Hong Kong Branch.
